Day 1 - Splendor of God

When you think about the Glory of God, what comes to mind? Majesty, power, splendor? But the Bible tells us there’s more to it than that. God’s glory isn’t just about His power and might. It’s also about His love and compassion for us, His people. Remember when Moses asked God to show him His glory? God’s response was to reveal His goodness and mercy.

The Israelites were so moved by God’s presence that they fell on their faces. It’s a testament to God’s greatness and the perfection of His attributes. We can’t fully comprehend it;  all we can do is stand in wonder and worship.

So it makes sense that God’s visible manifestation would be so incredible, so awe-inspiring, that we wouldn’t be able to look fully upon it. It’s so bright and glorious that even catching a glimpse of it fills us with delight and reverence.

Dear God,

I thank you for revealing your glory through your goodness and mercy. I am in awe of your greatness and perfection, which I can never fully comprehend. I pray that you help me to glorify you with my thoughts, actions, and relationships. Help me to remember that your glory is not just about your power and might, but also about your love and compassion for your people. Guide me to live my life in a way that brings glory to your name.

Amen.

Day 2 - He is Worthy

Every day, we have the opportunity to walk side-by-side with God. And there’s something really comforting about His unchanging nature. He’s like our safe place, our rock, our hero. When life throws us curveballs, we shouldn’t just walk to Him, we should run. We can count on His constant care.

God is everything - the beginning, the middle, the end. He’s the one who made us, saved us, and showered us with glory, all out of His grace. His wisdom, power, and love are beyond anything we can measure. He deserves our highest praise and love. And how should we respond to His grace? With gratitude, loyalty, and joy.

Now that’s something to think about, isn’t it?

Dear Jesus,

I praise you for your love and faithfulness. You are my refuge, my strength, and my deliverer. You are always with me. Thank you for your grace and mercy. You created me, saved me, and glorified me.  You are worthy of all glory, honor, and praise. Help me to live according to your will. Teach me to be grateful, faithful, and joyful. Help me to love you and others. Help me to share your gospel with the world. I can’t wait for the day I will see you face-to-face and worship you forever.

Amen.

Day 3 - His Alone

Imagine you've just made an amazing piece of art, and then someone you care about tries to pass it off as their own. You’d feel pretty betrayed, right?

That's kind of like what we read about in Exodus 34. It talks about God's jealousy, but not the petty kind of jealous we humans experience. This is about God refusing to let His glory be taken by anyone else. And why should He? He's the only eternal one, with perfect attributes like holiness, majesty, goodness, and love. These aren't things to be swapped for the flawed and corrupt things of this world. God's glory is His honor, His splendor, His dignity, and He's not about to share that with anyone.

Most people know that it is not okay to steal someone else’s work. But imagine a human trying to take credit for what God has done - now that's just plain crazy!

Heavenly Father,

You are the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. You are the only true God, and there is no other. You are glorious, holy, majestic, good, and loving. You are eternal, unchanging, and faithful. You deserve all the glory, honor, and praise. Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have tried to steal your glory or give it to someone or something else. Forgive me for the times I have been ungrateful, prideful, or rebellious. Forgive me for the times I have exchanged your truth for a lie, or your beauty for the ugliness of this world. Help me to honor you in all that I do and say. Help me to reflect your glory to others and point them to you.

Amen.

Day 4 - Glory In Nature

Have you ever seen a sunrise over Mt. Hood? It’s something else, isn’t it? The sky lights up with shades of pink, orange, and blue, all behind this incredible snow-covered mountain. Living here in Oregon, we’re pretty lucky. We get to see glimpses of God’s glory just about everywhere we look. It’s only natural to feel a sense of awe and wonder.

God’s glory is all around us, revealed in His creation. It’s a display of His power, wisdom, and beauty. He’s the one who made the heavens and the earth, the sea and the land, the sun and the stars, and all living things. And humans? He made us in His image, to reflect His glory and to enjoy His presence. God didn’t hide His glory - He put it on display for all of us to see. And it’s our job to recognize it, not just as the beauty, greatness, and worth of creation, but as a demonstration of the beauty, greatness, and worth of the Creator Himself.

The ultimate purpose of God’s creation and redemption is His glory. And He calls us to glorify Him in everything we do.

Dear Jesus:
I come before you with a heart full of gratitude for the wonders of your creation. I am in awe of the beauty of the earth, the sea, the sky, and all living things. Thank you for making me in your image, to reflect your glory and to enjoy your presence. Help me to glorify you in everything I do. Help me remember that your glory is the ultimate purpose of your creation and redemption.

Amen.

Day 5 - Glory In Jesus

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word, “shekinah” describes how God made Himself visible. Imagine a radiant cloud or a brilliant light within a cloud - that’s the shekinah, signaling that God is right there with you.

Jesus is called the Word of God, and He’s been with God since the very beginning. Everything that exists, it’s all because of Him. He’s the source of life and light for everyone. When you think about Jesus and the shekinah, it’s like they’re one and the same. Seeing Jesus is like seeing the presence of God Himself. In Jesus, we get to see the full majesty of God.

And that’s why Jesus came to earth. He lived a righteous life for us, died for our sins, and then rose again, conquering sin and death. It’s all about grace - Jesus willingly came on a rescue mission for us. And because of that, there’s hope. When we admit our shortcomings and ask for help, we can finally break free from the never-ending chase for worldly glory. Instead, we get to live forever in the light of God’s satisfying glory. How amazing is that?!

Dear God,

I'm in awe of your shekinah, your radiant presence. I thank you for Jesus, my source of life and light. Through Him, you made a way for me to be with you forever. His life, sacrifice, and resurrection are my hope. Help me admit my shortcomings and seek your help. Free me from chasing worldly glory, and let me live in your satisfying glory.

In Jesus' name.

Amen.
